Welcome to our new website. The Backbone Trail is the result of over 40 years of effort on the part of state, federal and local agencies and organizations, providing a unifying recreational feature for the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, our Nation’s largest urban national park.

The website is a service of the Santa Monica Mountains Fund. While this site remains under construction, you’re welcome to visit the Fund’s principal website.  When finished, we intend to provide accurate information about this phenomenal trail, as well as updates on trail conditions, events, and how you can help support 67 miles of the most amazing recreational opportunities in the greater Los Angeles area.  In addition, we hope to allow you a platform on which you can share your words and pictures as you explore the trail and bring the experience of hiking the Backbone Trail to life for fellow hikers and outdoor enthusiasts.
